Introduction

We are Curiosity Break. We are a small business based in Cardston, Alberta, Canada; see below for “How To Contact Us”.

We make fun, useful, and/or educational Apps (mobile apps, web apps, computer applications) for children and adults. We run a Website geared to adults at curiositybreak.com and run a Mailing List. These are, collectively, our Services.

About this Policy

This privacy policy covers data from our apps, our website, our mailing list, and from you contacting us directly. By accessing or using this Service, you agree to this privacy policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, your choice is not to use our Service.

This policy does not cover information gathered from offline, from app-store providers, or from other websites we may link to (other websites, including video or social media websites).

Parents, guardians, teachers: Please read this policy carefully, explain it to children who use our services, and note that we may update it from time to time, as legal, technical, and business requirements change. We will notify you in accordance with the importance of the change and applicable law.

This policy was last updated on October 27, 2018.

Privacy of Children

The privacy of children is especially important. We do not collect any personal information from anyone under 16 years of age. Please monitor children’s usage of our website and do not allow them to post to it, use any of our website’s interactive features, or to join our mailing list.

If you believe your child has given us personal information, contact us at privacy@curiositybreak.com and we’ll delete it.

Information We Receive From You and How We Get It

We collect two types of information; anonymous usage information, and personal information you provide to us.

Anonymous Information

Our Apps and Website automatically collect usage information, such as:

  • which levels or features people use in our apps
  • which pages people visit on our website
  • when, how often, and roughly where people use our Services
  • what sort of devices, web browsers, and operating systems people use to access our services
  • part of your device’s IP address

Personal Information

Should you contact us, and want a reply, you’ll provide us with some way to contact you back (most likely your e-mail address). You may additionally supply us with other information, such as your name and where you work.

If you join our mailing list, your e-mail address will be provided to our mailing list provider. While we haven’t chosen a mailing list provider yet, when we do, we’ll provide a link here to their privacy policy.

Our web hosting provider may collect your IP address.

Cookies

Our website does not use cookies.

Why We Are Allowed To Collect This Information?

We are allowed to collect anonymous information about the usage of our services because 1) it has been de-identified, and 2) we have a legitimate business interest in knowing how our services are used.

We are allowed to collect personal information because you expressly opt in to share the information with us, and it is therefore done with consent.

Our web host is allowed to collect your IP address, which may be cross-referenced with other data to determine who you are, to protect their systems from attack and abuse.

What We Do With The Information?

We use the anonymous usage information to make our services better. If we find, for example, that no one can beat level 3 in a game, we can fix it. If we find that lots of people like our write-up on purple clouds on Jupiter, we can decide to write more about it. We are allowed to share this information.

If you post a comment to our website, it becomes public information. While we can take it down later, we cannot do anything about other people’s copies of the information while it was live on the internet.

We use information provided when you contact us (such as e-mailing support) to be able to contact you back.

If you sign up for the mailing list, we’ll use that information to send you messages about things related to our Services or things we think may interest you. You will be bound by the terms of the service that runs the mailing list (and a link will be provided here).

We do share the information with our employees, contractors, consultants and collaborators. If our company changes ownership, the new owners will have the information.

Furthermore, we have the right to share information to aid in legal investigations, to protect ourselves from fraud, to protect the safety of individuals or as required by law.

You May Have Rights To Your Data

Different areas of the world have passed laws allowing you rights to your data. Please contact us at privacy@curiositybreak.com if you would like to know what data we have about you, would like to have it corrected, updated, or deleted, would like to withdraw your consent, or ask us not to further process it.

Transfer To Other Countries

Your data may be stored in various nations throughout the world.
